Fall Of Mirra: Prelude to destruction

22/09/09  ||  HailandKill

Proud to call themselves citizens of The Lion City, Singapore, Fall of Mirra are six wee lads who’ve just debuted in their scene even if they aren’t exactly musical virgins. (The members have side projects here and there.) Concerning the lackluster material at hand, without further ado, “Prelude to destruction” is a pile of crap, and when the Domination’s scribes deal with crap, they turn childish. Case in point: A more appropriate title for this turd would be prelude to boredom, as if Fall of Mirra hadn’t read the Domination’s take on Killswitch Engage’s new album some weeks back—this deluded crew are prolly still holding hands while frolicking in the meadows of Narnia, unaware of how (cough, cough) GAY they sound.

Alright, let objectivity prevail now. While the effort this sextet put into “Prelude…” bears the hallmarks of dedication and perseverance, the pat-on-the-back only goes so far. The trouble with these guys is they ride hard on Killswitch’s coattails and make a bad job of it. Opener “3:23” starts with pretentious keyboards and then the guitars crash for vocalist Brandon to start whining, “I will die… I will die…” in his worst Howard Jones imitation. This dude can’t sing like a black man, that’s for sure. From here on in the music accelerates downhill. Might as well skip “Once Lost (Is Forever)” for hella sucking. Do the same for “Razor Blade Smile”. Is it possible for humanity to benefit from recycled riffs, premature “core” vocals (kinda reminiscent of Alexi Laiho at his worst), and dull songcraft? Forget the musicianship here. This is bad, bad, bad, bad. It’s the bottom of the ladder, the lowest rung, a waste of words – your flaccid penis.

Fall of Mirra are half assed clones who deserve the Domination’s highest honor – aren’t we the Dream Killers after all?
